Signs of the Zodiac
WHAT THE ASTROLOGERS SAY
Over six thousand years of experience and progress have led Astrologers to believe the Moon and the Stars have the same remarkable influence over the life and destiny of human beings as the Moon affects the ebb and flow of the Tides. They have found that certain things occur so often when the Moon is in a certain sign that they feel safe in declaring it to be a rule that this thing will happen again when the Moon returns to that sign in the heavens. They base their prophecies on the position of the Moon and certain other planets with relation to various groups of stars called Constellations. There are twelve of the constellations. The Moon, in it's circuit through the sky, passes through each of these constellations in succession. Each of the twelve constellations has its sign and are the "Twelve Signs of the Zodiac" you hear spoken of so often. The Zodiac is an imaginary band of the sky about sixteen degrees in width or eight degrees on each side of the annual path of the Sun. The orbits of the Sun, the Moon, and the five planets were included within the sixteen degree band. Since the stars in the twelve constellations, as arranged, had the appearance of animals (except two) the name Zodiac (from the Greek word "zoion" -animal) was used. The point from which positions of the Zodiac are calculated is the point of the Sun's crossing of the Equinoctial from South to North the Vernal Equinox. This point is ARIES - the RAM. The Earth, in its travel about the Sun, passes the last two-thirds of one sign and the first one-third of the next sign each month. In the Moon's movement, it circles the Earth once each twenty nine and one-half days. You can easily follow out the idea for yourself with the rest of the constellations.
According to the Ancients, each "Sign of the Zodiac" rules a part of the human body. The part of our body governed by a particular constellation is supposed to be more sensitive when the Moon is in that constellation. Also they firmly believe that the stars control our destiny. They believe this so firmly that they never undertook anything of importance without first finding out whether or not the stars were favorable. Many authorities say the permanence of their buildings and monuments is due to this wise precaution. The word dis-aster which means "ill-starred", was one coined by the Ancients to express an ill-advised venture. And, each constellation, besides controlling certain parts of the body and all personal ventures, has wet or dry tendencies, and barren or productive and masculine or feminine characteristics. These are shown on the "Signs of the Zodiac" chart shown on this page.
In keeping with the observations and findings of the Astrologers regarding the "Signs of the Zodiac" we find the following passages in the Bible dealing with this subject:
"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens, to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. Gen.1-14.
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted."
Eccl.III 1 and 2
